Engagement Photos

I took pictures for a dear friend, Liz, and her fiance, Nate. It is hard to believe that four years ago, I was busy yelling at her to run faster, jump higher and be stronger. Now, in eight short months, she will take on the name that I got rid of a little over a year ago (no relation, though). Anyhow, she asked me to take their engagement pictures while they were home on Thanksgiving break. I attempted to make a CD for them, but for whatever reason it didn't burn correctly. And because I haven't updated my blog in forever and a day... here are some of my favorite shots from the shoot.

Last second photo shoot

I think the fall colors are at their peak right now. I wasn't planning on going out for a photo session today, but I received a call and quickly scheduled a photo shoot for a senior who needed her pictures by Friday. We met at Kathryn Albertson's park in Boise. This was my second trip to this particular park, and I am amazed by its beauty. There were many different locations that set up perfect back drops for these portraits. In addition to the already beautiful location, the foliage was absolutely divine. The vibrant reds and striking oranges were at their finest. I am so very thankful that I was able to see the colors AND capture some great senior pictures.

The young lady I took pictures of today was very easy to take pictures of. She was quite natural in front of the camera, which creates the best pictures. Together, we meandered through the park looking for fun locations to pose a picture. Incidentally, my favorite picture ended up being one that we took near purple flowers (as opposed to all the bright, fall colors). Honestly, though, I am hard pressed to pick a favorite from this session.

Fall is here

Another Saturday, another shoot. I enjoy it despite not getting to spend my Saturdays sleeping in. The weather is getting cooler, and it is hard to contend with the crisp air. However, one cannot complain because with the change of seasons comes the change of back drop. The leaves are changing to bright, vibrant colors. I believe this provides one of the prettiest back drops of all. I did another family shoot today, and I have provided a few of my favorite shots.

The above pictures of the little girl was a random snap shot. I find that, sometimes, the non posed pictures turn out the best. There is just a special feel that the picture gives off when I look at it, and I can't quite pinpoint it. Maybe others don't like the abstract look, but I certainly enjoy it.

The picture on the left is another non-posed picture that I randomly snapped. The mom and dad were trying to get the little girl to pep up, and it turned into a precious moment where they were all laughing at each other with the little boy leaning in to give his own hug. Additionally, I turned the picture to a more sepia tone... I feel like the sepia causes the pictures to feel even more fall-esque.

Football

I didn't actually do a photo shoot, per say, but I did take a shot of the varsity senior football players from Nampa Christian school. I haven't taken any other pictures this week so I decided to share this one. One of the mothers quoted her son as saying, "The picture is going to be totally cool." I hope it is totally cool.

Wonderful family

I took pictures of the most delightful family this evening. Sometimes, when you don't really know those you are taking pictures of, you aren't sure what to expect. Such was the case tonight as I didn't quite know what to expect going into tonight's photo session. I was beyond pleasantly surprised... what a nice, lovely, beautiful family. I came away from this photo session with a smile on my face and not because I got to take pictures (which I love), but because this family truly touched my heart.

In addition to meeting families for the first time, I am also still getting used to taking group shots. It can sometimes be tricky arranging everyone. I definitely do best with individual portraits, but I don't mind learning how to work with groups either. We took fun pictures (right) as well as some standard group shots.

At the end of the evening, the daughter of the lady who hired me had the idea of taking pictures of her children's feet. The lighting was perfect, and the photo really turned out quite lovely. It is a more abstract picture (left), but what a great keepsake to remember the size of her precious children's feet.

I also took several pictures of the individual couples and families. Each couple was fun and unique. The lady's son was particularly goofy and reminded me of my own brothers. He had fun taking me (too) literally, but in the end, I was able to get some nice pictures of him and his beautiful wife.

All in all, it was a very successful evening. I am happy with the way the pictures turned out, and I hope the family is, too.

Two precious girls

I did a photo shoot last week for a dear friend of mine. She has two adorable girls, and I have been wanting to photograph her girls for a long time. I took a few snapshoots of them last spring when I first purchased my camera. Since then, I have been begging my friend for the opportunity to have a photo shoot with her little ones. Last Saturday was finally the day. I don't think I anticipated them to be nearly as energetic as they ended up being. I am happy that I was able to capture some decent shots because they were always on the move. Of course, I find that the non-posed pictures are the ones I end up liking the best.

At the last minute, I decided to clip two flowers from the planter at my house. I didn't know if I would even use the flowers, but I was thinking it might be fun to have them hold the flowers if the opportunity arose. I definitely used them, and I really love the extra touch they added to the pictures. The flowers contrasted wonderfully with their green tops. Most importantly, the flowers held the girls' attention just long enough to capture a few precious shots.

My favorite captures are included in this post.
